As the largest auditorium of the Far East, Tongji University Auditorium was built in 1961, the hall is 40 meters wide and 56 meters long, the structure of the net span of 40 meters, 54 meters outside, for the assembly of the overall reinforced concrete grid structure.
The auditorium is located in the heart of the campus, the original seat of 3564, the auditorium in the course of the use, was the campus canteens, and later as theater and other performances. However, due to the age of the building, the old hall has been unable to meet the modern level of the concept of the comprehensive requirements of the auditorium renovation project was pushed onto the agenda.
The renovation program retained the entrance hall and detail of the original auditorium. The corridor of the porch and the decorative elements below are the distinctive style of the Tongji Auditorium. We use the hall north and south sides of the original lateral reinforcement of the horizontal plate, surrounded by glass side gallery, and the original side wall to the internal solid wall, put an end to the external environment on the internal interference. The hall of the arched reticulated shell structure is focused on the protection and performance of the content, we first the size of the roof and the way to the real performance of the structure of the grid unit to expose its mechanism; indoor roof structure using dew, regardless of both inside and outside the building The pure structure of the structure, showing the rhythm of the structure of the United States. The original hall at both ends of the height difference is only 950 mm, simply can not meet the rear viewers viewing requirements. We based on the original ground-based situation, to the underground excavation of some space as equipment, while the audience for a substantial increase. Auditorium area a total of 2947 seats, was divided into before, in the last three parts, the front row of a total of 0.95 meters rise in the row area rose 2.217 meters, the back area was raised 2.983 meters. The audience rose a total of 6.15 meters, line of sight analysis also basically meet the audience's viewing requirements. The old hall was transformed from the student cafeteria, the hall was cramped, and lack of adequate transportation space and transition space as a spectator, and lack of sanitation, could not meet the demand of 3000 people. Therefore, we will be the audience to the stage direction pushed about 2.4 meters away, and the building east facade off, forming a height of about 13 meters through the space. In this way, the audience is raised by 6 meters below the space and through the space together to form a strong guide semi-suction entrance hall, and the entrance porch and outdoor space to form a strong contrast to the spatial sequence. The two stairs in the middle of the hall and the stairs on both sides can enter the auditorium respectively. In the hall on both sides of the additional bathroom, the total area of 64 square meters, basically meet the requirements.
We removed the original screenings, the new projection room standing behind the audience, the independent sense of body weight to strengthen the richness of the internal space. The devices that are updated within the screen also meet the needs of the multi-function. The back of the screening hall uses a flap shape to enhance the reflection of the sound waves so that the delay time of the acoustic wave reaches the acoustic requirement.
The original backstage of the auditorium has been in disrepair. Lack of function, no rehearsal hall, there is not enough dressing room, lounge and bathroom, can not meet the normal performance needs. As a result, we add new volumes to accommodate new features on the basis of the original building, remove the original part of the original auditorium from the 13th axis, build a new two-storey building between the 1 and 12 axes, and expand the scope of the building , Increased the background space, rehearsal space, dressing room and lounge and other parts. New part of the basement layout 700 tons of fire pool and pump room. Add part of the use of very simple body weight and modeling techniques, the external walls of dry hanging stone plate, which further highlights the exquisite detail of the hall, kind of scale and sense of history. The west side of the building is highlighted in the vertical division of the style, and the original hall of the overall architectural style echoes, and the surrounding trees in the same direction of growth.
